Meet Kamaia Hall-Edwards from Cincinnati, Ohio. We are so excited to announce that she will be joining our Nutrition and Natural Medicine in Peru program this upcoming Winter Break! Learn more about Kamaia in this interview.
Tell us more about you:
I’m a rising senior majoring in Food Science at Alabama A&M University. I’m currently working as a 15-month Food Science Co-op Intern at The Hershey Company, where I’m tasked with continuously improving existing Hershey products.
What is your main motivation for participating in the program?
I have always had a passion for exploring the application of delicious flavor through the use of holistically beneficial ingredients.
What organizations are you involved in on campus?
I am a member of the Delta Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and a ‘24-‘25 Agriculture Future of America (AFA) Ambassador. I am also a previous E-board member of the Food Science Club and MANRRS Morrison Chapter.
Tell us about some of the places/things on your bucket list?
I’ve always wanted to go skydiving out of a plane and also scuba dive in Australia’s coral reef.
What are your future career goals?
My career goal as a Food Scientist is to create products with comforting flavors and natural ingredients that are beneficial to the mind & body.
What motivated you to choose Peru?
Peru draws me in with its rich indigenous history and beautiful landscape. I’m eager to learn about Andean superfoods and their benefits to our bodies.

What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment so far is graduating high school a semester early due to an early acceptance into my university on a full-ride academic scholarship to pursue my Food Science major.
