Our Summer Intern and Study Spanish in Spain program allows students from all majors to intern at a Spanish company while simultaneously studying Spanish. This program is highly immersive and allows students to quickly improve their Spanish while also gaining professional internship experience in their field of study. One of our most popular internships is at a local Veterinary Clinic. Learn more about veterinary internships in Spain from our past students!
Ksina from University of Florida
One of our former veterinary interns from the University of Florida, Ksina Valdes, shared about her experience with us on her Instagram @futuredmv:
Here is a sneak peek of my pre-vet internship with a Veterinary Clinic in La Coruña! It was such a great learning opportunity. I got to see the behind-the-scenes of diagnosis, laboratory work, ultrasounds, surgical preparation, and more which are not all a part of my job back home.
🐾I even learned how to intubate, got to assist with a dental cleaning, and assisted in the OR for surgery!
🌎While it was more challenging than I expected with all of the medical terminology being in Spanish, I soaked it up as much as possible since that was my goal going into this.
🩺 As I continue to learn more about veterinary medicine I will make sure to learn it in Spanish as well! This experience was invaluable and deepened my passion as a future DVM to confidently and accurately practice medicine in Spanish. I hope to have another similar experience in the future again… 🥰
📚I’m unbelievably grateful to @lingho_abroad for organizing such a wonderful program. My internship placement was great, my host family became family to me, and my Spanish for Native speakers class provided a space for me to learn and improve my Spanish.
We also got to see La Coruña through the eyes of locals while still visiting all of the MUST see tourist sites. I had a fabulous once-in-a-lifetime trip and I wouldn’t have had it any other way!
🐊 I also want to thank the Study Abroad Department @uflorida for allowing me to receive credits for this and for helping me with any questions I had along the way!
We have also had animal science and veterinary interns from UC Davis, University of Findlay, UC Riverside, and Brown University.
Veterinary Intern, Alex from UC Davis
Alex Adkisson @alexandria.98 from UC Davis shared:
This program was really integral for me getting to where I am today. Learning Spanish has helped me so many times since then and I have found myself being the only one who speaks it in a group of people when it is necessary to use to communicate with someone else. The immersive experience really not only forces you to learn Spanish but makes it natural, you learn Spanish anytime you go anywhere and have to communicate with the people there! The internship let me get experience in a field I was unable to get back in the US, when I really needed it to apply to grad school. While doing any medical internship can be difficult because you have to learn an entire extra vocabulary set, I was still able to understand a lot of what was going on and get experience doing basic things around the clinic. I am so grateful for this experience!
“Finals forces me to remind myself that I’ve wanted this since I was three and it’s going to be worth it. I’m so grateful I got a taste of my future this summer, it was the best thing I’ve ever done.”
Caylee from The University of Findlay
Animal Science: Pre-veterinary student, Caylee Combs from The University of Findlay shared the following review.
I spent 10 weeks in A Coruña, Spain, and it was an amazing experience. The weather was nice and a little rainy which made exploring the city enjoyable. A Coruña offers a great blend of urban environment with the added bonus of beautiful beach sunsets. Despite the cold ocean water, the beaches were a highlight of my time there and the sunsets were beautiful. The veterinary internship I participated in was particularly rewarding, providing valuable hands-on experience that deepened my understanding of the field. Additionally, I had the opportunity to study Spanish with excellent professors, which significantly improved my language skills. Santiago de Compostela was another highlight of the trip. The city’s history and cathedral were both very impressive.
